19 Weeks

After reading Sara's blog, I recently had a little craving for some French toast the way she made it once for us. And so, kind of to celebrate Théo's 19th week, the craving took form this morning. We filled our bellies with this delicious recipe: challah bread, bananas and pecans, all caramelized of course! Nothing better to start this beautiful sunny day. The recipe is really not hard and the best is that we still have a couple left for tomorrow's breakfast. Yummy!

Bastille Day

Like every year for more than 10 years, Pat and Arlette hosted another Bastille Day at their place. Another good party where family and friends gathered and enjoyed French cuisine and French music. This year, my input was to make two cakes for dessert. I had some good feedback back in April when I made a strawberry "bavarois" and so I decided to make it again for this event. But I also wanted to make another one with pears. I've never made this one before and I was worried about the flavor and if we could taste the pear enough. Turned out that both were excellent, just like the party - and Théo was happy to meet a lot of his older cousins for the first time that day.

Chef Crêpe

When it comes to crêpes everyone knows that you don't mess with me. So when Rachel said she would like to have some for dinner this week it didn't take me very long to figure out a shopping list for the filling. I just needed a little time to do my "mise en place" and we were ready for our crêpe night!
The results: they were AWESOME! I don't know which one was my favorite but here are the 3 crêpes du jour:
1 - Spinach, Onions, Feta Cheese
2 - Chicken, Tomatoes, Basil, Mozzarella
3 - Béchamel sauce, Chicken, Mushrooms, Carrots
Well, actually maybe my favorite of the night was the last and dessert one with Crème de Salidoux" - sort of a soft caramel made with salted butter, specialty from Brittany. But be sure the next time I'll make crêpes for you, you will have the same options!

Snack du Jour

Time for treats, now is a good moment to try that green tomato jam that I've made with some tomatoes from Andrew & Michelle's garden. Since Bonne Maman was telling me about that recipe, I really had to try it one of these days! Results are that I don't think it will last for a long time in our fridge! It is SOOO good! If anybody wants the recipe, just ask!
Oh, and on that picture, the glass is a replica of the ones we have at my parents' place in Provence. Sara, who is a VERY talented artist, recreated it and gave a few of them to us as a gift. "Merci" so much again Sara. And even though they are not the originals, they do have that particular sentimental value and every single time I use them, my thoughts go right back to Provence...
Alright, looking forward to snack time, a glass of milk, my thoughts and my green tomato jam tartine!!!
