A Bit of News

It's hard to believe that my last post was on January 31st!!!! Time flies by so fast I have hardly enough time to keep the blog updated. But luckily, nothing really important happened since (or I already forgot about it:). Today Théo just had his very first hair cut (thank you Michelle) and so here is my excuse to come by and write about it! We were actually almost a little sad to cut his hair, but in the end, Théo is very cute with his new hair and another milestone has been reached in his young life that is going by almost too fast.
Everything is still going very well at day care and Théo keeps learning new stuff every day. His most recent new words are: triste and content (happy/sad), monter (going up), "Papa sleep", "Maman sleep", douche (shower), couche (diaper), plane, frog, fish, crocodile... at the beginning it was easy to write them down but there are so many now that it would be close to impossible to write down everything that Théo says. He can even count and recognize numbers from 1-10 and the letters T - H - E - O, "P Papa" and "M Maman" (as he says it), and "N Nanny" :)

This weekend we also celebrated with the whole family the 91st birthday of Bonne Maman whom Théo loves so much (almost as much as the cookies) and us too. Another occasion to have some fun with his cousins. As far as the house goes, we finally finished painting the dining room area as well as the hallway and stairs. I also re-did the pantry with fresh new paint and brand new shelving as it really needed a fresh look! Next step will be probably to paint our bedroom (if anyone's interested!) but we won't rush it, we have tons of other projects that are already going to keep us busy for a wile... Happy month of March to everyone.

Peanuts, Not for Me

Let's go back to November when at Thanksgiving Théo started to have a rash on his face and hands. Nothing new was introduce to him that day in terms of food, no new lotions on his skin, and we couldn't spot any mosquito bite that could have provoked anything. So the only explanation we had was that there were peanuts on the table. He didn't eat any because we were avoiding it anyway but, people ate them, and as they got in close contact with Théo we guessed that it could have been the reason of this reaction since those peanuts might have left traces of oil a little bit everywhere.
Now, since he was due for a blood work at his 18 months, we had him tested for peanut allergy at the same time. And this is when we heard about this "great" news: our theory was confirmed, Théo has an allergy to peanuts which is realy coming out from nowhere to us!
It's not too bad you would like to say except that on a scale from 0 to 6, our handsome little guy obtains a great 5. Which means that if he ever comes to eat peanuts, his throat might come to close and prevent him from breathing normally (which is already scary just thinking about it).
So this is why we have now to carry with us and at all time those infamous "epi-pen" in case it happens. Now it seems that about 20% of children will outgrow the allergy when the grow-up so let's hope Théo belongs to those.

All this just reminds us that we did not have all of these issues when growing up (or at least we were not aware of them) and I am just questioning how this happens and that maybe there is a link with how we produce things these days and the food that ends up in our plates. Though we are trying hard to eat very healthy, cooking everything or almost from scratch.
But this would be another topic: what do we eat, what's available to us and what should be available to us...

O Christmas Tree

This won't be Théo's first Christmas but maybe the first that he will really be able to enjoy as a little boy. We actually realized how amazed and happy he is when something new comes in the house. Here is a video to show you his reaction the morning when he saw the tree mounted with some lights on...which is adding another meaning to us for our first Christmas in our new place.

He now often begins his days with a big "wow" every time he steps in the living room. We can't wait to see his reaction on Christmas morning with all the presents!

Sleepover

Tonight Théo and Emma had their very first sleepover. Despite the crazy fall snow storm, Barbara and Massimo made it to New York City to see a show, and Emma came here to spend the night. The kids had a blast together! The night ended with our two little monkeys jumping on the bed....but none fell off and bumped their head (thank goodness!).

Hi!

1 Year

One year ago, we had the joy and the surprise to welcome Théo into our life. No need to say that this past year has been filled with happiness! Of course there has been a lot of (very) short nights and some (very) long days, but who wouldn't do all of this for their little baby. Now, Théo is a little guy who already knows what he wants and what he doesn't. He likes vegetables (a little), loves his fruit, often asks you to take him in your arms, runs everywhere standing up like a big boy. He likes to dance, go on a walk in his stroller, take a ride on Papa's back, play hide and seek with Mommy. He doesn't like: when another baby takes his toys, going down for a nap, broccoli, somebody touching the piano pedals when playing (he really won't let you do it!), being changed on the changing table, playing on his own!
But don't worry he is still an angel 99% of the time.
Now, if you follow a bit the blog, you already know that today was the fifty second and last shoot of his weekly photo project. So here is a picture with all fifty two photos of the little peanut. Happy Birthday Théo, we love you very very much.

51 Weeks at The Zoo

Today Théo turned 51 weeks and we celebrated this with an outing at the zoo. Well it wasn't actually something planned, but when Barbara and Massimo called to join them at the zoo for the day, we thought it was a great idea and a perfect way to celebrate another week in Théo's life.
And so we met Barbara and Massimo with little Emma at the Turtle Back Zoo which is relatively close to our house. Théo loved looking at all the animals and we discovered that according to him, the dog says "woof woof", but the lama says "woof woof" as well as the kangouroo and even the turtles from the Galapagos. Did you know that, still according to Théo, the pig says "woof woof"?
Overall, Théo loved his first visit to the zoo. He loved going on the little train, but he didn't love the carrousel so much where he stayed in my arms, grabbing onto me everytime I tried to put him on the seat! I even tried to sit with him but I got summoned after just a few seconds, being told that I was not allowed to sit on the ride...whatever!

Théo already granted us with a couple of steps here and there but this time he walked the biggest distance to this day. And, that was to reach out to his papa and give him a big hug...how lucky I got!

Weeks are going by and Théo keeps growing and amazing us. And even if he's very active and it is sometimes hard to keep up with him, he luckily takes some good naps to let us rest for a little bit.

44 Weeks

After forty-three weeks of photo shoots every Sunday in the living room of our apartment, here is the forty-fourth one, the first in our new place and apparently Théo is thrilled by it!

I'm using the opportunity as well to thank everyone for showing up and having helped us last Saturday for our moving. Everything went great and we were done by the very early afternoon. Unpacking though should now take a bit more time....
