Let's go back to November when at Thanksgiving Théo started to have a rash on his face and hands. Nothing new was introduce to him that day in terms of food, no new lotions on his skin, and we couldn't spot any mosquito bite that could have provoked anything. So the only explanation we had was that there were peanuts on the table. He didn't eat any because we were avoiding it anyway but, people ate them, and as they got in close contact with Théo we guessed that it could have been the reason of this reaction since those peanuts might have left traces of oil a little bit everywhere.
Now, since he was due for a blood work at his 18 months, we had him tested for peanut allergy at the same time. And this is when we heard about this "great" news: our theory was confirmed, Théo has an allergy to peanuts which is realy coming out from nowhere to us!
It's not too bad you would like to say except that on a scale from 0 to 6, our handsome little guy obtains a great 5. Which means that if he ever comes to eat peanuts, his throat might come to close and prevent him from breathing normally (which is already scary just thinking about it).
So this is why we have now to carry with us and at all time those infamous "epi-pen" in case it happens. Now it seems that about 20% of children will outgrow the allergy when the grow-up so let's hope Théo belongs to those.
All this just reminds us that we did not have all of these issues when growing up (or at least we were not aware of them) and I am just questioning how this happens and that maybe there is a link with how we produce things these days and the food that ends up in our plates. Though we are trying hard to eat very healthy, cooking everything or almost from scratch.
But this would be another topic: what do we eat, what's available to us and what should be available to us...
