It seems like the last day of nice warm weather was yesterday! So I'm glad we took advantage of it as Rachel and I went apple picking at the orchard in Warwick, NY. The day was so nice that it was just fine being in t-shirts...well for me because Rachel is a little more sensitive to the cold and so borrowed my sweater. It was almost doing advertising for my rugby team as it was my Mudturtles rugby sweater! Not to mention that we won our game the day before after another epic ending with a try at the last seconde!
Anyway, back to our story! We're arriving at the farm and we're driving very slowly between aisles and aisles of apple trees. So now we're seeing that you have to park in between the trees and find that a little strange but...whatever!
So we're spending 2 good hours walking through the domain, giving ourselves some exercises because it's pretty hilly over there.
Here, you don't pay your stuff by the pound but per bag you bring home. So we are filling ours pretty good and when the bag is finally completely full, ready to explode, we're going back to the car...if we can find it!
This is when you realize that there are almost more cars than people in the orchard. Not sure this is very green and healthy for our little apple trees!
We're heading to the exit ready to pay...but of course I, yes I said "I" forgot to bring any cash, or check, or debit card! So I get a slip from the cashier, park the car, walk back to the country store up there, pay with the credit card, get my receipt, go back to the car, show the receipt to the cashier down there and we're finally leaving the place with our 25 pounds of apples!
We will stop in town to take a nice lunch in a cute little restaurant and then head back home after a nice day in the country. We have now to think about lot of ideas about how to use these apples: sauteed apples, upside down apple cake, strudel, apple sauce, baked apples, crepes filled with apples,...any suggestions are very welcome!
Bon Appétit!
